Located at the extreme northern tip of Celebes
Island, the area is a mixture of dense tropical forests and vast coconut
plantations overlooked by numerous volcanoes, some still active and more than
2000 m high.
Spices, and more particularly cloves –sometimes known as “golden
nails”- nutmegs and copra, are the main resources of the area, although
fishing also plays an important part.
This is the country of flowers. Smiling and hospitality are here a long
time tradition.
The majority of the population is Christian.
